I grew up with animals in rural Souix City, Iowa. I always wanted to be a veterinarian as long as I can remember. I read any information about animals storys, facts or fiction. I had horses, dogs, and cats. I helped my father with his pigs regularly. I also had rabbits and chickens at times. I knew I wanted to work with animals and help them and decided becoming a veterinarian would be the best way. Little did I know that a majority of the time is also spent with people. I have come to enjoy talking with people as much as working with animals.
I went to Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa where I received a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science in 1988. I was accepted into the College of Veterinary Medicine and received my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. This year will be my tenth year of practicing veterinary medicine since graduating.
I have worked at three different veterinary hospitals in central Pennsylvania before opening Line Mountain Animal Hospital, Inc on January 29, 2001. I have had a wide variety of experiences with many kinds of animals from traditional pets and farm animals such as dogs and cats, horses and cows, to rabbits and white-tailed deer. I hace chosen to concentrate mainly on small animals because I can provide better care by concentrating on fewer species. The volume of information available to veterinarians is enormous and to continue to update my education requires focusing on specific groups of animals. Most of my patients are dogs and cats but I also treat horses, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, ferrets, goats, pot-bellied pigs and sheep.
